Stop Work Authority Policy
The aim of this procedure is to cultivate an environment where all employees are empowered to halt work when they believe that individuals are at risk, operational safety is in doubt, or there is a risk of damage to the facility or potential injury.
PETROFIX is committed to safeguarding the health and safety of all individuals as well as protecting the environment in which we operate. The Stop Work Authority (SWA) is a key tool designed to help achieve these objectives.
Key Principles
- It is the duty and right of PETROFIX employees to initiate a Stop Work intervention whenever they perceive a threat to the safety of any person, facility, or the environment.
- PETROFIX employees are fully encouraged and supported to utilize Stop Work and Intervene when they witness unsafe behaviors, actions, or failure to act during operations.
- The choice made by an employee in such situations is founded on their personal judgment, belief, and experience, and they cannot be criticized or penalized for exercising caution.
- There should be no delay in the application of Stop Work and Intervene, even if subsequent investigations determine it was implemented unnecessarily.
- Employees who take proactive measures to avert a hazardous situation will be recognized for their positive actions.
- No one shall be expected or pressured to engage in work they believe is unsafe or detrimental to the environment.
- Any work that has been stopped shall not continue until all safety issues have been resolved, or until the area Supervisor/Safety has thoroughly assessed the concern and determined it is safe to proceed.
